Social Media Video Vlog.jpg

Its all about entertainment, relevance and did I say entertainment...

What is a social media video?

Well... it is whatever you want it to be. Social media is the wild west when it comes to creating content. We find everything from low, low, low grade selfie content to very polished expensive productions. The question is what type of videos do I need for social media. The answer is the same as any other medium. You need a high quality video that will move your audience into action. There are so many misconceptions about is and is not acceptable in the realm of social media.

It is thought that because the majority of the content on social media is crap, that the video production value does not matter. That could not be farther from the truth. The truth is, because the majority of the content on social media is mediocre at best, your content needs to be stellar. Why? you might ask. It is the only way to stand out. Since people can swipe ads quickly, turn off ads selectively and negatively comment frequently, it is important to stand out in a positive way.  This translates into high production value.

A cheap video will make your company look cheap. I self made video that should be professional in nature will create doubt among consumers.

PRODUCTION QUALITY DOESN'T MATTER - FALSE

Quality matters just as much on social media as it does on every other platform. The image you portray is the image your market will respond to.

SMARTPHONE AND DIY VIDEOS ARE MORE EFFECTIVE - FALSE

It's funny to see business owners tie themselves in knots trying to avoid production costs. An impromptu video is never better than a well planned video production. Even though there are examples of smartphone videos going viral.

VIRAL VIDEOS CAN BE REPLICATED - FALSE

Viral videos are not created, they happen by chance. This is almost all of them are shot on smartphones. Attempting to create a viral video is like playing the lottery.

VIDEOS FOR SOCIAL MEDIA COST LESS THAN OTHER VIDEOS - FALSE

The cost of a video has nothing to do with what platform it is created for. Here is a simple way to understand it...if I were to hire Tom Cruise to be in a social media video, or Steven Spielberg to direct it, would it be cheaper because it is on social media? No...people who work in video production do not work for less, nor is it less work to make a video because it is for social media. learn more

Just because you can shoot a video with your smartphone for free, does not make you a professional, nor does it devalue video production professionals.
